The term “Grinder” can be traced back to the East Coast, where during World War I, Italian immigrants set up sandwich shops close to the shipyards. Their freshly baked Italian rolls were filled with generous amounts of meats and cheese, and were then baked and garnished with lettuce and tomato. These super-sized sandwiches were a favorite of the hard working men who ground off rivets on the metal warships. The friendly shop owners referred to these men as grinders, and the ever popular sandwiches also came to be known as GRINDERS.
Today while GRINDERS are the heart of our menu and what we are well known for, Mancino’s is quickly developing a great reputation for our other menu items including our award winning pizza and our huge stuffed calzones.
Mancino’s in Brighton now shares space with the Kaffa House, one of the first coffee bars in Livingston County. Kaffa House is a full scale coffee bar offering not only delicious dark brewed coffees but also hot lattes, mochas, cappuccinos, and fresh baked goods.
Mancino’s of Brighton came to life over thirteen years ago and has been family owned and operated ever since. We are proud to have won the Livingston County Restaurant Poll for Best Pizza and Best Sandwich many times and most recently in 2006. We use only the most fresh ingredients. We cut and prepare all of our vegetables and meats in house and bake our bread from scratch every morning. We keep our kitchens open so you can come in and see the operation yourself.
